The Kid's gains don't really matter at all. It's Gotenks who increased his base, not them. They fused, he trained. He got the benefits of the training, they didn't.

Base Gotenks (Post) > SSJ Gotenks (Pre)
SSJ Goten (Pre) >>> Base Goten (Post)
It doesn't matter if Goku and Gohan never trained in formed form.

The power incrise beteween Gohan and Vegeta is still much greater than power formed between Goku and Vegeta.

He can't simply lost it in fusion process...
He loses it when he powers down so he can fuse with Goku since you need to be equal PLs to fuse.
I find it hard to belive that he will loose and not get more power as combined fighter of two peoples...
Why would the fusion dance even make both fighters have equal PLs if it's just going to add the missing power back in before calculating the fusions power?

It can. Gohan has to suppress to fuse.

Potara's presented as better because it doesn't require anyone to power down, implying that all the power you suppress isn't used at all in Metamoran fusion.
Chapter: 502 (DBZ 308), P1.3
Context: Goku asks if he should become a Super Saiyan before merging with the Potara, and Elder Kaioshin advices against it
Elder Kaioshin: “If you’re going to become a Super Saiyan, it’s better to do it after merging. But anyway, even without doing that, you’ll probably be plee~~eenty. The Potara’s power is just that amazing!”

Potara doesn't nead two fighters to be at equal power levels to fuse because it's diffrent proccess of fusing, and it can be enough without transforming.

Nothing says that that power from fusion characters can be lost because he suppressed himself. That's not the end result of fusion.

Claearin:

They nead equal power level for fusion dance to take effect, while with Potara they don't.
